Dignity
We honour each person's choices, privacy, and right to be heard. Support is offered with respect, never imposed.
Northern Ontario · Since 1989
Since 1989, Superior Greenstone Association for Community Living has supported adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live and take part in their own communities across Greenstone, instead of having to move away to find help.
Our story
SGACL was founded in 1989 by families and neighbours who believed that every person, regardless of ability, deserves a full life close to home. At the time, adults with disabilities in Northern Ontario often had to leave their communities to find support. Our founders set out to change that.
From a single supported-living arrangement, we have grown into a trusted charitable organization serving the towns of Greenstone — including Geraldton, Longlac, Nakina, Beardmore, and Caramat. Today we support around 120 adults each year through residential, community, and recreational programs delivered by staff and volunteers who live in the same communities as the people they serve.
We remain a registered Canadian charity (CRA 107625303RR0001), governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and accountable to the families and members we serve.
Serving Geraldton, Longlac, Nakina, Beardmore, and Caramat since 1989.
Our mission
Everything we do is person-directed. We start with what each person wants for their own life — where they live, who they spend time with, how they contribute — and we build our support around that. Inclusion isn't a program to us. It's the point.
What guides us
Four commitments shape how we show up for the people and families we serve.
We honour each person's choices, privacy, and right to be heard. Support is offered with respect, never imposed.
Everyone deserves a place in community life. We build connections to neighbours, workplaces, and friendships close to home.
As a registered charity, we steward every dollar and every trust placed in us with transparency and care.
People lead their own plans. Our role is to listen first and support the life each person chooses.

Governance
SGACL is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors drawn from the communities we serve. Board members are local residents — family members, retired professionals, and long-time neighbours — who give their time to steer the organization on behalf of the people we support.
The Board sets our strategic direction, safeguards our charitable resources, and holds the organization accountable to its mission and to Ontario's regulatory requirements. Directors are elected by the membership and serve without compensation.
To protect the fairness of our 50/50 raffle, Board members and staff directly involved in running the raffle are not permitted to purchase tickets. See our Rules of Play.
